When we live in a society that considers chivalry to be synonymous with flirtation, it is no surprise to me that men and women are refusing to engage in relationships with only a single partner. It is quite sad actually, that social interactions have decayed to the point that they have, and we are supposedly living in our best circumstances as a species? I think not.

Pretending not to give a fuck and not giving a fuck are entirely different.

To say society frustrates me would be a sick understatement and an insult to my very being. I do not understand the needs of others to share in an ideal of harmonious mediocrity; to destroy themselves collectively. People need to understand that being different and unique are positive traits and following the crowd takes no thought. All I witness, day in and day out, is wasted potential. The anger that rises in my chest can barely be described through logical means and containing it is nearly impossible. I think people need to be ratified through following the leader and showing they are apart of the “larger picture”. They do this instead of embracing the idea of being a leader themselves and not cultivating their intelligence. Society chooses to tell people not to pursue avenues that involve enlightenment, only the paths that destroy a person’s ability to rationally think for themselves. No one seems to understand that celebrating mediocrity every weekend is self-indulgent and exhibits no temperance. Our generation has lost the ability to delay gratification and this causes a lack of motivation once vital to our survival. Our generation survives due to warning labels, advances in technology and condescension. Natural selection is no longer relevant to our way of life and people wonder why the global IQ has been steadily dropping. These problems should promote concern in the public, but people do not seem to care, they are apathetic towards anything that might change their daily lives. We live in the information age, the ability of acquiring information instantaneously is being squandered by the public; ignorance has now become a choice. The public is more concerned with the newest trends than the speeches of world leaders that have shaped the world we live in today. Society enforces the idea that anything different is dangerous and eccentric. The works of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell should not be seen as manuals for future generations; they should be used as tools to be certain the ideas contained between the covers are never utilized. The idea of being lonely in a crowd used to strike me as odd…now being apart of that same crowd has a similar effect. I have never thought of myself as being extraordinarily different from anyone, but I am slowly realizing that deep thought is becoming debunked.

"The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind." - Gordon Gekko
